"It's about California's future and California's legacy," Schwarzenegger said of his budget fix. "It's not about me or any legislator." His solutions would put California on a path to a "slow and steady march back to prosperity," he added.
If voters approve three of six ballot measures on Tuesday, the state would have to reduce education funding by $3 billion, resulting in teacher layoffs, larger class sizes and cutting the school year by five days, the governor said. State university funding would be cut by $1 billion.

and that's if the ballot measures pass, which, as i understand it, they won't.
If the key ballot measures - Propositions 1C, 1D and 1E - fail, the governor proposes to cut an additional $2.3 billion from K-12 schools, reducing the school year by 7 1/2 days a year.
