All he knew was that when he awoke from a peaceful snooze under one of the huge spreading oaks near the buffalo corral his treasured wig was gone.

. . .After the search had been kept up for nearly two hours the searchers concluded that the wig had been found by some bald stranger in the park who had worn it away or that it had been eaten by one of the buffaloes.
