Steele said that was just an example of how the party can retool its message to appeal to young voters and minorities without sacrificing core conservative principles.insane. if you take religious/"moral" beliefs out of this argument and make it about business finance, what do you have left? we're going to categorically deny people equal rights because doing otherwise means businesses would have to pay the same amount of benefits they pay for their other employees?
"Now all of a sudden I've got someone who wasn't a spouse before, that I had no responsibility for, who is now getting claimed as a spouse that I now have financial responsibility for," Steele told Republicans at the state convention in traditionally conservative Georgia. "So how do I pay for that? Who pays for that? You just cost me money."
this is crazy because this wasn't some off the cuff remark, he specifically highlighted this as the kind of direction the republican party should be moving in: public acceptance of gay marriage is spreading, but we can trick people into opposing it by telling them it will cost money. i'm sorry, michael steele, i don't think "young people and minorities" are that stupid.
So... if we get rid of marriage benefits altogether, then that would be really good for the economy, right?
ReplyDeleteHave children out of wedlock and NEVER get married, it will be a boost to the economy. Michael Steele says so! Seriously!
