spoilers!

we went to see pixar's new movie floating house yesterday. it's very pretty and wonderful and sad. definitely worth seeing it at the castro, with digital projection 3d on their giant screen.

(spoilers!) i didn't realize before seeing it that it was a remake of gran torino: an elderly widowed man, distraught after his wife's death, has shut himself off from the world. he's very protective of his property and stubbornly resists change. but then an asian-american boy teaches him to open up and learn to live again. what's shocking is that the pixar version was more foulmouthed and racially provocative than eastwood's film.
